5 Things You Need to Know about Snapdragon 835
After an accidental leak earlier, Qualcomm has just announced details of System-on-Chip (SoC) next high-end, Snapdragon 835. This is a big thing. Most mobile phones are the hottest headlines runs with Qualcomm chips.

The list of features of this chip is quite long, but you do not need to know all the details. Here are the most important aspect of this new chip, and what it means for mobile phones in 2017.

10nm make it small and efficient

Look at the photo above. Both chips are smaller than a coin, but larger chips is Snapdragon 820, chip high end of last year. Snapdragon 835, although faster and has more features, is significantly smaller.

This is the result of the manufacturing process 10nm (820 made on 14nm process). Transistors were smaller and denser good for power consumption. Snapdragon 835 powered by Kyro 280 CPU has four cores of high performance up to 2.45GHz and four low-power cores to 1.9GHz, which is faster than the CPU at 820. While Snapdragon Adreno 540 GPU is claimed to provide 3D graphics 25 percent faster (along with HDR screen support 10-bit). With this extra performance, Qualcomm said the chip consumes 25 percent less power.

Enables a better camera

In image processing, Snapdragon 835 taken some important steps than previous Qualcomm chip. Image signal processors (ISPs) 14-bit double can handle 16-megapixel camera is a double or a 32-megapixel camera. Qualcomm also has improved software algorithms that provide zoom and image stabilization, and 835 supports dual photodiode and hybrids better autofocus.

Some mobile phone manufacturers develop image processing software on their own, but many also use the capabilities of Qualcomm.

Has a very fast connectivity

Snapdragon 835 X16 models integrate new LTE Qualcomm. That means a 256-QAM, 4x Carrier Aggregation, and 4x4 MIMO antenna. It is a category LTE 16 for download and 13 upload. We're talking about LTE download speeds of 1 gigabit and 150 megabits upload. This is the peak speed of the chip. And depending on your carrier if it supports all of these fancy technology.

On the Wi-Fi side, provided support for MU-MIMO 4x4 on 802.11ac Wi-Fi adapter. Qualcomm said the chip also supports 802.11ad, which is Wi-Fi technology multi-gibgabit very fast (and more power efficient). But the company did not say 802.11ad modem is integrated into the chip, as they did with 802.11ac modem. The possibility that the chip only has the path to the external modem support.

What Bluetooth specification 5.0? Well, Snapdragon 835 is the first solution certified Bluetooth 5.0, when accompanied by a companion chip WCN 3990. In other words, Bluetooth 5.0 are not built this, but this SoC together with wireless chip dedicated 5.0 Bluetooth solution would be first in the market.

Improving the ability of 4K

Best current Snapdragon chip capable of recording 4K video at 30fps and play it back at 60fps, with support for H.264 and HEVC.

So, what's new? In addition to support for 4K display, this new chip supports high dynamic range and 10-bit color gamut. The technology is not common in smartphones, but with the surge in 4K and HDR on TV, maybe we'll see more mobile phones and tablets with HDR and wide color gamut in 2017.

Quick Charge 4 is faster and more flexible

This is the first Qualcomm chip that supports the new Quick Charge technology 4, which promises five hours "talk time" within five minutes of charging. It's 20 percent faster, or 30 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 3, while 5 degrees (Celsius) cooler when charging. This chip also supports USB-C connector and the USB-PD power delivery.
